Year 2 - Maple & Willow

Hello and welcome to the Year 2 page.  We are Mrs Howard, Mrs Reynolds and Mrs Davis, and we are delighted to be the Year 2 class teachers this year. Mrs Howard is Willow class teacher and Mrs Reynolds and Mrs Davis are Maple class teachers.

The children had a really successful first term in Year 2 and achieved so much. We are particularly proud of their shining performance in the Christmas play as well as the amazing star challenges that were shared in classes, showcasing the children's knowledge of a variety of different habitats. The children continue to demonstrate our school values of pride, compassion, respect and responsibility.

We have an exciting term ahead of us. Please see our long-term plan on our curriculum page for an overview of what we will be covering this year. Some of the highlights for this term will be learning about everyday materials and life cycles and health in science. To help us to learn about the life cycle of a chick, we will have an eggs-iting visit from the living eggs company. In geography, we will be learning about our amazing world and in history the children will delve into monarchs of the past.  We will be designing a chair to help baby bear in DT and developing the children's clay skills in art. As well as this, we look forward to celebrating World Book Day and Science Week this term.

We have opportunities for parents and carers to come in throughout the term too. We have our class assembly on Thursday 13th February at 2:45pm where the children are looking forward to sharing their learning about the Great Fire of London. After half-term, we have pupil learning conferences on the 25th and 27th February, where your child can share their report with you. This is always a great opportunity for your child to share their successes from the year so far and their next steps. Finally, we have a workshare opportunity after school on 31st March where parents and carers can come in and see their child's work.

At home it would be great if the children could continue to use their Numbots accounts to support their fluency in maths. The children also have access to Numbergym where they can practice their fast recall of 2's 5's and 10's on the table trainer game, as well as a fun Numble game (like Wordle but with numbers) and lots of other fun games.

Please feel free to speak to us or send an email to the school office if you have any questions or concerns that you would like to discuss.
