Year 4 - Rowan
Welcome to Rowan Class’s page! We have ‘hit the ground running’ in Year Four, with a packed curriculum. The children are settling in well and quickly getting used to the combined classes. They are extremely well-supported by the additional adults in the classroom: Miss Faulkner, Mrs Heslin, Miss Watts and Miss Williams. On Thursday and Friday afternoons, the class is split into two groups to make sure everyone has a very positive experience in their P.E. lessons (Fridays outside, Thursdays inside).
There has been something of a rainforest theme to the start of term, as we have been investigating rainforest prints in art, using close-ups of animals and vegetation to produce patterns, studying the Ancient Maya in history, and including lots of description of tropical rainforests in our independent writing based upon The Great Chocoplot.
In science, we have been learning about human and animal digestive systems. This includes studying our teeth and the teeth of animals, both of which the children have found fascinating. In year Four we continue to learn French and have, so far, recapped common conversational phrases and started to learn some classroom commands.
Our library slot is on a Friday and we aim to change reading books on a Thursday. Please aim to read with your child at least four times per week, as this can have a huge impact on their learning and confidence as they become increasingly independent learners in Key Stage 2. Please make sure they bring their reading diaries and reading books into school every day, so they are ready to read when there is an adult available, and they have all their login details for online resources.
Those children who attend spelling groups that have a weekly test should have their spelling word lists in their reading diaries – these tests take place on a Thursday each week. Maths and reading comprehension homework is sent home every other week. Each term, there is a Star Challenge.
We are very keen to encourage children to follow the school's uniform policy. It can be found on this website – please make sure you are familiar with it.
